🥐 Puff Pastry Filled with Meat and Cheese

Puff pastry filled with meat and cheese is a savory pastry where flaky puff pastry encases a flavorful filling of ground meat, cured meats, or sausages combined with cheese. It’s popular as an appetizer, snack, or light meal in many European cuisines.

🥩 Common Fillings

  • Ground beef, lamb, or chicken
  • Diced ham, salami, or prosciutto
  • Cheese: cheddar, mozzarella, or feta
  • Optional: onions, garlic, herbs (thyme, parsley, oregano)

👨‍🍳 How to Make It

Ingredients

  • 1 sheet puff pastry (thawed if frozen)
  • 1 cup cooked meat (ground beef, chicken, or sausage)
  • ½ cup shredded cheese
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)
  • Salt and pepper
  • Optional: herbs or spices

Steps

  1. Prepare filling
    • Sauté meat and onion until cooked.
    • Season with salt, pepper, and optional herbs.
    • Let cool slightly, then mix in the cheese.
  2. Prepare puff pastry
    • Roll out the puff pastry on a lightly floured surface.
    • Cut into squares or rectangles, depending on desired size.
  3. Fill and fold
    • Place a spoonful of meat and cheese in the center of each square.
    • Fold over (into a triangle or rectangle) and seal edges by pressing with a fork.
  4. Egg wash
    • Beat the egg and brush over the top of each pastry for a golden finish.
  5. Bake
    • Preheat oven to 200°C / 400°F.
    • Bake for 15–20 minutes until puffed and golden brown.

🍽️ Serving Suggestions

💡 Tip: You can also add vegetables like bell peppers or mushrooms for extra flavor, and mix cheeses for a gooier filling.
