Here’s the real-deal, old-school pound cake—dense, buttery, perfect with coffee or just your hands.

Classic Pound Cake

Ingredients

  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, room temp
  • 1½ cups granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs, room temp
  • 1½ cups all-purpose flour
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 325°F (165°C). Grease and flour a loaf or bundt pan.
  2. Cream butter & sugar until pale and fluffy (about 4 minutes).
  3. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each.
  4. Mix in vanilla.
  5. Fold in flour and salt just until combined—don’t overmix.
  6. Bake
    • Loaf pan: 70–80 minutes
    • Bundt pan: 60–70 minutes
  7. Cool 10–15 minutes, then turn out.

Tips for Perfect Pound Cake

  • Low & slow oven = tight crumb
  • Room-temp ingredients matter
  • If it browns too fast, tent loosely with foil

Optional Glow-Ups

  • Lemon: add zest + lemon glaze
  • Cream cheese: swap ½ cup butter for cream cheese
  • Vanilla glaze: powdered sugar + milk + vanilla
