🍰 Classic Pound Cake

Ingredients (makes 1 loaf)

  • 1 cup (225 g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup (200 g) sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 cups (250 g) all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) milk

Instructions

1. Prep

  • Preheat oven to 175°C (350°F)
  • Grease a 9×5 inch loaf pan and line with parchment paper

2. Cream butter & sugar

  • Beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy (3–4 minutes)

3. Add eggs & vanilla

  • Beat in eggs one at a time
  • Mix in vanilla extract

4. Combine dry ingredients

  • In a separate bowl, whisk flour, baking powder, and salt
  • Gradually add dry ingredients to butter mixture, alternating with milk
  • Mix until just combined (do not overmix)

5. Bake

  • Pour batter into pan
  • Bake 50–60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean
  • Cool in pan for 10 minutes → transfer to a wire rack

  • For extra flavor, add lemon or orange zest to the batter
  • Wrap in foil after cooling to keep moist
  • For a golden crust, brush top with melted butter halfway through baking
