Pound Cake 🍰
Pound cake is a rich, dense cake traditionally made with one pound each of butter, sugar, eggs, and flour—hence the name. It’s buttery, moist, and perfect for slicing plain or serving with fruits, whipped cream, or glaze.
Ingredients
- 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 4 eggs, room temperature
- 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- ¼ tsp salt
Optional: powdered sugar for dusting, or glaze (lemon, vanilla, or chocolate)
Instructions
- Preheat oven
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×5-inch loaf pan. - Cream butter and sugar
In a large bowl, beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy (about 3–5 minutes). - Add eggs
Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. - Add dry ingredients
Sift together flour and salt. Gradually fold into the butter mixture. Stir in vanilla extract. - Bake
Pour batter into prepared pan. Bake 50–60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. - Cool and serve
Let cake cool in pan 10 minutes, then turn out onto a wire rack to cool completely. Dust with powdered sugar or drizzle with glaze if desired.
Serving Ideas 🍽️
- Serve plain or toasted for breakfast
- Top with whipped cream and fresh berries
- Serve alongside ice cream for dessert
💡 Tip:
- Room temperature ingredients ensure a smooth, even batter.
- For a more moist cake, you can substitute ¼ cup of butter with sour cream or yogurt.
I can also provide a lemon pound cake variation that adds a bright, zesty flavor if you want a citrus twist.
