🍰 Classic Pound Cake

Pound cake is a rich, buttery, and moist cake with a dense yet tender crumb. Traditionally, it was made with a pound each of butter, sugar, eggs, and flour—hence the name.


🥄 Ingredients

  • 1 cup (225 g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1½ cups (300 g) granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 2 cups (250 g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • ½ cup (120 ml) milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

1️⃣ Preheat and Prepare Pan

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Grease and flour a 9×5-inch loaf pan or line with parchment paper.

  1. In a large bowl, beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy (3–5 minutes).

3️⃣ Add Eggs

  1. Beat in eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.

4️⃣ Combine Dry Ingredients

  1. In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
  2. Gradually add dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with milk, beginning and ending with flour.
  3. Stir in vanilla and optional citrus zest.

5️⃣ Bake

  1. Pour batter into prepared pan and smooth the top.
  2. Bake 60–70 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  3. Let cool in the pan 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

  • Serve plain or dust with powdered sugar.
  • Add a glaze: lemon, vanilla, or chocolate.
