Potato pancake

Posted on March 23, 2026 by Admin

Potato pancakes (also called latkes in Jewish cuisine or aloo chilla in South Asia) are crispy, golden pancakes made from grated potatoes, perfect for breakfast, snacks, or a side dish.

🥔 Classic Potato Pancakes Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 3 medium potatoes (peeled and grated)
  • 1 small onion (grated)
  • 1 egg
  • 2–3 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • Salt and pepper (to taste)
  • Oil (for frying)

👩‍🍳 Instructions:

  1. Prepare potatoes:
Grate potatoes and squeeze out excess water using a clean cloth.
  2. Mix ingredients:
In a bowl, combine grated potatoes, onion, egg, flour, salt, and pepper. Mix well.
  3. Heat oil:
Add a few tablespoons of oil to a pan over medium heat.
  4. Form pancakes:
Scoop spoonfuls of mixture and flatten slightly in the pan.
  5. Fry:
Cook 3–4 minutes per side until golden brown and crispy.
  6. Drain & serve:
Place on paper towels to remove excess oil. Serve hot.

🍴 Serving Ideas:

  • With sour cream or yogurt
  • With apple sauce
  • As a side for grilled meats or curries

💡 Tips:

  • Squeeze potatoes well to avoid soggy pancakes
  • Keep oil hot for crispy texture
  • Add garlic or herbs for extra flavor

If you want, I can give you a baked version, a cheesy potato pancake, or a vegan version without eggs 🥔✨.

Do you want me to share one of these versions?
