🍪 Oma’s Buttergebäck Cookies
Classic German butter cookies — rich, crisp, and buttery, perfect with coffee or tea.
🛒 Ingredients (Makes ~24 cookies)
- 1 cup (225 g) unsalted butter, softened
- ½ cup (100 g) sugar
- 1 large egg
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 2½ cups (310 g) all-purpose flour
- ¼ tsp salt
- Optional: powdered sugar for dusting or chocolate drizzle
🔥 Instructions
1️⃣ Preheat oven
- 350°F (175°C).
- Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
2️⃣ Make the dough
- Beat butter and sugar until creamy.
- Add egg and vanilla; mix until smooth.
- Gradually add flour and salt; mix until dough comes together.
3️⃣ Shape cookies
- Roll dough into small balls (about 1 inch) or use a cookie press for traditional shapes.
- Place on baking sheet, leaving 2 inches between cookies.
- Flatten slightly with a fork or the back of a spoon.
4️⃣ Bake
- Bake 12–15 minutes until edges are lightly golden.
- Remove from oven and cool on a wire rack.
5️⃣ Optional finishing touches
- Dust with powdered sugar or drizzle melted chocolate over cooled cookies.
