🍫 Old-Fashioned Chocolate Fudge

Old-fashioned chocolate fudge is a rich, dense, melt-in-your-mouth sweet made by cooking sugar, butter, and cocoa to a soft “fudge” stage, then beating it until creamy.

🧾 Ingredients:

  • 2 cups sugar
  • ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • ½ cup milk
  • ¼ cup butter
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt

👩‍🍳 Instructions:

1. Prepare pan

  • Grease a small square tray or line it with parchment paper

2. Cook the mixture

  • In a heavy pan, mix sugar, cocoa, milk, and salt
  • Heat on medium, stirring until sugar dissolves
  • Bring to a gentle boil

3. Reach soft-ball stage

  • Let it boil without stirring too much
  • Cook until it reaches about 112–115°C (soft-ball stage)
OR drop a bit in cold water—it should form a soft ball

4. Add butter & vanilla

  • Remove from heat
  • Add butter and vanilla, but don’t stir yet

5. Beat the fudge

  • Let it cool slightly (10–15 minutes)
  • Beat vigorously until it thickens and loses its shine

6. Set

  • Pour into prepared pan
  • Smooth the top and let it cool completely
  • Cut into squares

🍬 Tips:

  • Don’t overcook or it becomes grainy
  • Beating is key for smooth texture
  • Use a heavy pan to avoid burning
  • Add nuts (walnuts or almonds) for extra crunch

🍫 Variations:

  • Peanut butter fudge 🥜
  • Marshmallow swirl fudge
  • Dark chocolate fudge
  • Nutty fudge with almonds or cashews

If you want, I can also give you a no-cook 5-minute fudge, a condensed milk fudge version, or a fudgy brownie hybrid recipe 😄
