Meatloaf

🍖 Classic Meatloaf

A hearty, comforting dish made with seasoned ground meat, baked to perfection and topped with a savory glaze.


🛒 Ingredients (Serves 4–6)

  • 1½ lbs (680 g) ground beef (or a mix of beef and pork)
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • ½ cup milk
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • ½ tsp dried thyme or Italian seasoning
  • Glaze: ½ cup ketchup, 2 tbsp brown sugar, 1 tsp mustard

🔥 Instructions

1️⃣ Preheat oven

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Line a baking dish or loaf pan with parchment paper or lightly grease.

2️⃣ Mix meatloaf

  • In a large bowl, combine ground meat, onion, garlic, breadcrumbs, milk, egg, Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper, and herbs.
  • Mix gently until combined (don’t overmix — it keeps the loaf tender).

3️⃣ Shape & glaze

  • Shape the mixture into a loaf and place in the pan.
  • Mix glaze ingredients and spread evenly over the top.

4️⃣ Bake

  • Bake 55–65 minutes, or until internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C).

5️⃣ Rest & serve

  • Let rest 10 minutes before slicing.
  • Serve with mashed potatoes, roasted vegetables, or gravy.

🌿 Tips & Variations

  • Add finely chopped bell peppers, carrots, or mushrooms for extra moisture and flavor.
  • Substitute ketchup glaze with barbecue sauce for a smoky flavor.
  • Use a mix of beef, pork, and veal for a traditional Italian-style meatloaf.
  • Freeze leftovers in slices for quick future meals.
