Here’s a classic, juicy Meatloaf recipe with a sweet and tangy glaze — perfect comfort food 🍽️
Classic Meatloaf
Serves: 6
Time: About 1 hour 15 minutes
🥩 Ingredients (Meatloaf)
- 1½ lbs (700 g) ground beef (80/20 works best)
- 1 cup breadcrumbs
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 eggs
- ⅓ cup milk
- 2 tbsp ketchup
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp salt
- ½ tsp black pepper
- 1 tsp dried thyme or Italian seasoning
🍅 Glaze
- ½ cup ketchup
- 1–2 tbsp brown sugar
- 1 tsp mustard (yellow or Dijon)
Instructions
1️⃣ Preheat
Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F). Lightly grease a loaf pan or line a baking sheet with parchment.
2️⃣ Mix
In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, onion, garlic, eggs, milk, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper, and herbs.
Mix gently — don’t overwork the meat or it can become dense.
3️⃣ Shape
Form into a loaf shape and place in pan or on baking sheet.
4️⃣ First Bake
Bake for 40 minutes.
5️⃣ Add Glaze
Mix glaze ingredients together. Spread evenly over the meatloaf.
Return to oven and bake another 15–20 minutes, until internal temperature reaches 71°C (160°F).
6️⃣ Rest
Let rest 10 minutes before slicing to keep it juicy.
Tips for Extra Flavor
- Add sautéed mushrooms for moisture.
- Mix beef and pork (50/50) for a richer loaf.
- Add shredded cheddar inside for a cheesy center.
Serve with mashed potatoes and green beans for a classic meal.
