Meatball sandwich

Posted on January 28, 2026 by Admin

Ah, now we’re talking comfort food on a roll! 😋 Let’s break down a classic meatball sandwich.

Classic Meatball Sandwich

Ingredients (for 2–4 sandwiches):

  • 1 lb (450g) cooked meatballs (beef, pork, turkey, or a mix)
  • 2–3 cups marinara sauce (homemade or store-bought)
  • 4 hoagie rolls or sub rolls
  • 1–2 cups shredded mozzarella or provolone cheese
  • Fresh basil or parsley for garnish (optional)

Optional extras:

  • Grated Parmesan cheese
  • Sautéed onions or peppers
  • Red pepper flakes for spice

Instructions:

  1. Heat the meatballs:
In a saucepan, combine meatballs and marinara sauce. Simmer on medium-low heat for 10–15 minutes until heated through and flavors meld.
  2. Prepare the rolls:
Slice the hoagie rolls lengthwise, leaving a hinge so the sandwich holds together. Lightly toast if you like a little crunch.
  3. Assemble the sandwich:
    • Spoon a generous amount of meatballs and sauce onto each roll.
    • Top with shredded cheese.
  4. Melt the cheese:
Option 1: Place assembled sandwiches under the broiler for 2–3 minutes until cheese melts.
Option 2: Cover in a pan with a lid over low heat to melt the cheese.
  5. Garnish and serve:
Sprinkle with fresh basil or parsley, a pinch of Parmesan, and any extra toppings you like. Serve hot.

💡 Tips for perfection:

  • Roll your meatballs a bit smaller than usual—they fit nicely in a sub roll.
  • Use thick rolls so the sauce doesn’t make them soggy.
  • Leftover meatballs? Freeze them individually for quick sandwiches anytime.

If you want, I can also give you a fancier “gourmet” meatball sandwich version with caramelized onions, roasted peppers, and special cheese. It’s basically sandwich heaven.

Do you want me to do that?
