Meatball 🍖

Meatballs are versatile, bite-sized balls of ground meat mixed with seasonings, breadcrumbs, and eggs. They can be baked, fried, or simmered in sauces, making them a staple in many cuisines—from Italian spaghetti and meatballs to Swedish meatballs.

Basic Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef (or a mix of beef, pork, and veal)
  • ½ cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 egg
  • ¼ cup Parmesan cheese, grated (optional)
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 tbsp chopped parsley
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 2–3 tbsp olive oil (for frying, optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the mixture
In a bowl, combine ground meat, breadcrumbs, egg, Parmesan, garlic, onion, parsley, salt, and pepper. Mix gently until just combined.
  2. Form meatballs
Shape mixture into balls, about 1–2 inches in diameter.
  3. Cook the meatballs
    • Pan-fry: Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat and cook until browned on all sides and cooked through (about 10–12 minutes).
    • Bake: Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C) and bake on a parchment-lined sheet for 15–20 minutes.
    • Simmer in sauce: Add raw meatballs directly to tomato or cream sauce and cook 20–25 minutes, turning occasionally.

Serving Ideas 🍽️

  • Italian-style: Serve with spaghetti and marinara sauce 🍝
  • Swedish-style: Serve with creamy gravy and mashed potatoes 🥔
  • Appetizer: Serve mini meatballs with dipping sauce at parties
  • Add to soups or casseroles for extra protein and flavor

💡 Tip:

  • For tender meatballs, don’t overmix the meat.
  • Soak breadcrumbs in a little milk before mixing for extra moisture.
