Lasagna is a rich, layered Italian classic made with pasta sheets, meat sauce, creamy filling, and melted cheese. Here’s a reliable, homemade version that turns out hearty and flavorful every time:


🍝 Classic Lasagna Recipe

🧂 Ingredients

For the meat sauce:

  • 500g ground beef (or beef + chicken mix)
  • 1 onion (finely chopped)
  • 2–3 garlic cloves (minced)
  • 2 cups tomato sauce or crushed tomatoes
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • Salt, black pepper, chili flakes
  • 1 tsp dried oregano or mixed herbs

For the creamy layer:

  • 1 cup ricotta cheese (or thick yogurt as substitute)
  • 1 egg
  • ½ cup grated mozzarella
  • Pinch of salt & pepper

Other:

  • Lasagna sheets (store-bought)
  • 1–1½ cups mozzarella cheese (for topping)
  • ¼ cup grated parmesan (optional)

👩‍🍳 Instructions

1. Prepare the Meat Sauce

  • Heat oil, sauté onion until soft
  • Add garlic and cook briefly
  • Add ground meat and cook until browned
  • Stir in tomato sauce, paste, and spices
  • Simmer for 15–20 minutes until thick

2. Make the Creamy Filling

  • Mix ricotta, egg, mozzarella, salt, and pepper

3. Assemble the Lasagna

In a baking dish:

  1. Spread a thin layer of meat sauce
  2. Add lasagna sheets
  3. Add meat sauce
  4. Add creamy mixture
  5. Repeat layers (usually 3 layers total)

Finish with sauce and lots of mozzarella + parmesan on top.


🔥 Baking

  • Cover with foil and bake at 180°C for 25 minutes
  • Remove foil and bake another 15–20 minutes until golden and bubbly
  • Let it rest for 10–15 minutes before cutting

  • Don’t overfill layers—keep them balanced
  • Let it rest before serving so it holds shape
  • Add spinach or mushrooms for extra flavor
  • For extra richness, use a bit of butter in the sauce
