🍩 Homemade Sugar Donuts (Soft & Fluffy)

Classic homemade donuts coated in cinnamon sugar — light, tender, and perfect for breakfast or dessert.

🛒 Ingredients (Makes 8–10 donuts)

For the donuts:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp ground nutmeg (optional, adds warmth)
  • ⅔ cup milk
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Oil for frying (vegetable, canola, or sunflower)

For the coating:

  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 1–2 tsp cinnamon (optional)

👩‍🍳 Instructions

1️⃣ Make the Dough

  1. In a bowl, whisk flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and nutmeg.
  2. In a separate bowl, mix milk, melted butter, egg, and vanilla.
  3. Pour wet ingredients into dry ingredients and stir until a soft dough forms. Don’t overmix.

2️⃣ Shape the Donuts

  1. Lightly flour a surface and roll dough to about ½-inch thickness.
  2. Cut out donuts with a donut cutter or two round cutters (one large, one small for the hole).
  3. Keep scraps to roll out more donuts.

3️⃣ Fry

  1. Heat 2–3 inches of oil in a deep skillet to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Fry donuts 1–2 minutes per side until golden brown. Don’t overcrowd the pan.
  3. Drain on paper towels.

4️⃣ Sugar Coating

  1. Mix sugar and cinnamon in a shallow bowl.
  2. While donuts are warm, roll them in the sugar mixture until coated.

🍽 Serving

  • Serve warm, with coffee or milk.
  • Optional: drizzle with chocolate or glaze for extra sweetness.

🔥 Tips

  • Keep oil temperature steady — too hot burns donuts, too cool makes them greasy.
  • For lighter donuts, use cake flour instead of all-purpose flour.
  • Dough can be refrigerated for 30 minutes if it’s too sticky to handle.

If you want, I can give you a baked sugar donut version that’s easier and healthier — no frying required.

Do you want me to do that?
