Healthy apple crisp

Posted on March 23, 2026 by Admin

Here’s a delicious healthy apple crisp recipe—sweet, lightly spiced, and topped with a crunchy, wholesome oat topping.

Ingredients (Serves 6–8)

For the Filling:

  • 6 medium apples (Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or a mix), peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 2 tbsp maple syrup or honey
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp nutmeg (optional)
  • 1 tsp lemon juice

For the Topping:

  • 1 cup old-fashioned oats
  • ¼ cup whole wheat flour (or almond flour for gluten-free)
  • ¼ cup chopped nuts (walnuts, pecans, or almonds)
  • 2–3 tbsp maple syrup or honey
  • 2 tbsp coconut oil or unsalted butter, melted
  • ½ tsp cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven:
Preheat to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a 9×9-inch baking dish.
  2. Prepare the Filling:
    • In a bowl, toss apple slices with maple syrup, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice.
    • Spread evenly in the prepared baking dish.
  3. Make the Topping:
    • In another bowl, mix oats, flour, chopped nuts, cinnamon, maple syrup, and melted coconut oil until crumbly.
  4. Assemble and Bake:
    • Sprinkle the oat topping evenly over the apples.
    • Bake for 35–40 minutes, or until the topping is golden and the apples are tender.
  5. Serve:
    • Let cool for a few minutes before serving.
    • Optional: top with Greek yogurt or a small scoop of vanilla ice cream.

💡 Tips:

  • For extra flavor, add a pinch of ginger or cardamom to the filling.
  • Use a mix of tart and sweet apples for a balanced flavor.
  • Make ahead: Assemble the crisp and refrigerate; bake just before serving.

If you want, I can also give a single-serve mug version of healthy apple crisp that’s ready in 5 minutes—perfect for a quick dessert or snack.
