Hamburger Steaks with Onion Gravy is a classic comfort dish—juicy beef patties cooked in a rich onion gravy. 🍔🧅🥘

Ingredients

For the Hamburger Steaks

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • ¼ cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 egg
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce

For the Onion Gravy

  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1 large onion, sliced
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Prepare the patties:
    In a bowl, mix ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, garlic powder, black pepper, salt, and Worcestershire sauce.
  2. Form patties:
    Shape the mixture into 4 oval hamburger steaks.
  3. Cook the steaks:
    Heat a skillet over medium heat and cook patties about 4–5 minutes per side until browned. Remove and set aside.
  4. Cook the onions:
    In the same skillet, melt butter and cook sliced onions until soft and lightly caramelized.
  5. Make the gravy:
    Sprinkle flour over the onions and stir for 1 minute. Slowly add beef broth while stirring to avoid lumps.
  6. Simmer:
    Return the hamburger steaks to the pan and simmer 10–15 minutes until the gravy thickens and the steaks are fully cooked.
