Ham & cheese puff pastry

Posted on February 9, 2026 by Admin

Ohhh this one’s a winner 🧀🥐—crispy, buttery, and wildly easy.

Ham & Cheese Puff Pastry

Ingredients

  • 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
  • 4–6 slices ham (thin works best)
  • 1–1½ cups shredded cheese
(Swiss, Gruyère, cheddar, or a mix)
  • 1 egg + 1 tbsp water (egg wash)
  • Optional add-ins: Dijon mustard, honey mustard, garlic powder, herbs

Oven

  • Heat to 400°F (205°C)
  • Line a baking sheet with parchment

Assembly Options

Squares / Turnovers (easy)

  1. Roll pastry slightly and cut into 4–6 squares.
  2. Spread a thin layer of Dijon (optional).
  3. Add ham and cheese.
  4. Fold over, press edges with a fork.
  5. Brush with egg wash.

Pinwheels (party favorite)

  1. Roll pastry slightly.
  2. Layer ham and cheese evenly.
  3. Roll up tightly like a jelly roll.
  4. Slice into 1-inch rounds.
  5. Brush tops with egg wash.

Bake

  • Bake 18–22 minutes until puffed and golden.
  • Cool 5 minutes before serving (cheese lava warning 🔥).

Pro Tips

  • Don’t overfill—puff pastry needs room to rise.
  • Sprinkle a little flaky salt or sesame seeds on top.
  • For extra crisp bottoms, bake on the lower rack.

Variations

  • Croque-monsieur style: add béchamel or Dijon + Gruyère
  • Breakfast: add scrambled eggs
  • Sweet-savory: ham + brie + fig jam

Perfect for brunch, snacks, or “accidentally ate four” situations 😄
