Ground beef stew

Here’s a cozy, budget-friendly Ground Beef Stew—all the comfort of classic stew but quicker and easier.


Ingredients (Serves 4–6)

  • 1 lb (≈450 g) ground beef
  • 3 medium potatoes, peeled and diced
  • 3 carrots, sliced
  • 2 celery stalks, chopped
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 4 cups beef broth
  • 1 can (14 oz / 400 g) diced tomatoes
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp dried thyme
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 tbsp flour (optional, for thickening)

Instructions

  1. Cook the Beef:
    Heat olive oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add ground beef and cook until browned. Drain excess fat if needed.
  2. Sauté Aromatics:
    Add onion, carrots, and celery. Cook 5–6 minutes until slightly softened. Stir in garlic and cook 30 seconds.
  3. Build the Stew:
    Stir in tomato paste, paprika, and thyme. Cook 1 minute to deepen flavor.
  4. Add Liquids and Potatoes:
    Add diced tomatoes, beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, and potatoes. Stir well.
  5. Simmer:
    Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 25–30 minutes until potatoes and vegetables are tender.
  6. Thicken (Optional):
    Mix flour with a little cold water to form a slurry. Stir into stew and simmer 5 more minutes until thickened.
  7. Serve:
    Taste and adjust seasoning. Serve hot with bread or over rice.

💡 Tips:

  • Add frozen peas or green beans in the last 5–10 minutes for extra veggies.
  • For richer flavor, simmer longer or add a splash of red wine.
  • This stew reheats well and tastes even better the next day.
