Ground beef

Here’s a versatile guide for cooking ground beef—simple, flavorful, and perfect as a base for countless dishes.

Basic Seasoned Ground Beef (Serves 4)

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb (≈450 g) ground beef
  • 1 small onion, diced (optional)
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced (optional)
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp paprika or chili powder (optional for extra flavor)
  • 1–2 tbsp oil (if needed)

Instructions

  1. Heat the Pan:
Heat a skillet over medium-high heat. Add oil if your beef is lean.
  2. Cook the Beef:
    • Add ground beef to the pan.
    • Use a spatula or wooden spoon to break it into small crumbles.
  3. Add Aromatics:
    • If using onion, add it when beef starts to brown. Cook 3–4 minutes until softened.
    • Add garlic in the last 30 seconds to prevent burning.
  4. Season:
    • Sprinkle salt, pepper, and optional spices over the beef.
    • Continue cooking until fully browned and no pink remains.
  5. Drain (if needed):
    • Drain excess fat for leaner beef.

Tips & Uses

  • Taco Meat: Add 1 packet taco seasoning or 2–3 tsp homemade blend + ¼ cup water.
  • Pasta Sauce: Add tomato sauce, oregano, and basil for a quick Bolognese.
  • Casseroles: Combine with cooked rice or pasta, vegetables, and cheese.
  • Sloppy Joes: Stir in ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, and a bit of brown sugar.

💡 Pro Tips:

  • Browning the beef in batches avoids steaming and gives better flavor.
  • Lean ground beef is healthier, but fattier beef adds more flavor.
  • Cooked ground beef stores well in the fridge (3–4 days) or freezer (up to 3 months).

I can also give a slow cooker ground beef recipe or a quick skillet version for meal prep if you want a ready-to-use base. Do you want me to do that?
