Classic Skillet Fried Potatoes

Serves 3–4

Ingredients

  • 4 medium potatoes (Russet or Yukon Gold)
  • 3 tbsp oil (vegetable or olive oil)

  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • ½ tsp paprika
  • Optional: ½ tsp garlic powder
  • Optional: ½ onion, sliced

Instructions

1️⃣ Prep the potatoes

  • Peel (optional) and slice into thin rounds or small cubes.
  • Soak in cold water 10–15 minutes (removes starch for extra crispiness).
  • Drain and pat completely dry.

2️⃣ Heat the pan

  • Heat oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  • Make sure the oil is hot before adding potatoes.

3️⃣ Fry

  • Spread potatoes in a single layer.
  • Let cook undisturbed 4–5 minutes to develop a crust.
  • Flip and continue cooking 12–15 minutes total, stirring occasionally.
  • Add onions halfway through if using.

4️⃣ Season

  • Sprinkle with salt, pepper, paprika, and garlic powder near the end of cooking.
