🐟🍚 Fried Fish with Grits

Fried fish with grits is a classic Southern U.S. comfort meal—crispy seasoned fish served with creamy corn grits.

For the Fried Fish

  • 2–4 fish fillets (catfish, tilapia, or whiting)
  • 1 cup cornmeal
  • ½ cup flour
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 egg (optional)
  • Oil for frying
  • Lemon wedges (for serving)

For the Grits

  • 1 cup grits
  • 4 cups water or milk
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • ½ cup shredded cheddar cheese (optional)

👨‍🍳 Instructions

1️⃣ Cook the Grits

  1. Bring 4 cups water or milk to a boil.
  2. Slowly stir in the grits.
  3. Reduce heat and cook 15–20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  4. Add butter, salt, and cheese if using.

Grits should be smooth and creamy.

2️⃣ Prepare the Fish

  1. Pat fish fillets dry.
  2. Mix cornmeal, flour, paprika, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
  3. Dip fish in beaten egg (optional), then coat with the cornmeal mixture.
