Ingredients
Dough
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- ½ tsp salt
- 2 tbsp butter or oil
- ~¾ cup warm water
Filling (example: beef)
- 250 g ground beef
- 1 small onion (finely chopped)
- 2 cloves garlic (minced)
- ½ tsp paprika
- ½ tsp cumin
- Salt and black pepper (to taste)
- 2 tbsp chopped coriander or parsley
- 1 tbsp tomato paste (optional)
For frying
- Vegetable oil
Instructions
1. Make the dough
- In a bowl mix flour and salt.
- Add butter/oil and mix until crumbly.
- Slowly add warm water and knead until a soft dough forms.
- Cover and rest for 20–30 minutes.
2. Prepare the filling
- Heat a little oil in a pan.
- Cook onion until soft.
- Add garlic and ground beef; cook until browned.
- Add paprika, cumin, salt, pepper, and tomato paste.
- Cook a few minutes, then mix in parsley.
- Let the filling cool.
3. Shape the empanadas
- Roll the dough thin and cut 10–12 cm circles.
- Place a spoon of filling in the center.
- Fold into a half-moon shape.
- Press edges with a fork to seal.
4. Fry
- Heat oil to medium-high.
- Fry empanadas 2–3 minutes per side until golden brown.
- Remove and drain on paper towels.
Serving
Serve hot with:
