Here’s a tasty fried empanada recipe — crispy outside and flavorful inside 🥟🔥

Ingredients

Dough

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp butter or oil
  • ~¾ cup warm water

Filling (example: beef)

  • 250 g ground beef
  • 1 small onion (finely chopped)
  • 2 cloves garlic (minced)
  • ½ tsp paprika
  • ½ tsp cumin
  • Salt and black pepper (to taste)
  • 2 tbsp chopped coriander or parsley
  • 1 tbsp tomato paste (optional)

For frying

  • Vegetable oil

Instructions

1. Make the dough

  1. In a bowl mix flour and salt.
  2. Add butter/oil and mix until crumbly.
  3. Slowly add warm water and knead until a soft dough forms.
  4. Cover and rest for 20–30 minutes.

2. Prepare the filling

  1. Heat a little oil in a pan.
  2. Cook onion until soft.
  3. Add garlic and ground beef; cook until browned.
  4. Add paprika, cumin, salt, pepper, and tomato paste.
  5. Cook a few minutes, then mix in parsley.
  6. Let the filling cool.

3. Shape the empanadas

  1. Roll the dough thin and cut 10–12 cm circles.
  2. Place a spoon of filling in the center.
  3. Fold into a half-moon shape.
  4. Press edges with a fork to seal.

4. Fry

  1. Heat oil to medium-high.
  2. Fry empanadas 2–3 minutes per side until golden brown.
  3. Remove and drain on paper towels.

Serving

Serve hot with:

  • chili sauce 🌶️
  • garlic sauce
  • yogurt dip
