Oh yes—fried cabbage is simple, savory, and downright addictive 🥬🥓 Here’s a classic version that’s perfect as a side or main dish.


🥬 Classic Fried Cabbage

⏱️ Time

  • Prep: 5–10 minutes
  • Cook: 15–20 minutes

🛒 Ingredients

  • 1 medium head of cabbage, chopped or sliced
  • 2–3 tbsp butter or oil
  • 1 small onion, thinly sliced
  • 2–3 cloves garlic, minced (optional)
  • Salt & pepper to taste
  • Optional: cooked bacon pieces, smoked sausage, or a splash of apple cider vinegar for tang

🔥 Instructions

  1. Heat butter or oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  2. Add onions (and bacon if using) and sauté until softened, 3–5 minutes.
  3. Add garlic and cook 30 seconds until fragrant.
  4. Add cabbage, season with salt and pepper, and toss to coat in butter.
  5. Cook 10–15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until cabbage is tender and slightly caramelized.
  6. Optional: drizzle a little vinegar for tang or stir in cooked sausage slices for extra flavor.
  7. Serve hot as a side or with rice, potatoes, or meat.

🌟 Variations

  • Southern-style: Add bacon and cook slowly for a smoky flavor.
  • Spicy: Add red pepper flakes or a dash of hot sauce.
  • Quick & light: Use olive oil instead of butter and cook until just wilted for a lighter version.
  • With greens: Mix in kale or collard greens for extra texture and nutrients.
