Oh yes! Crumb cake is classic comfort dessert—moist, tender cake topped with a sweet, buttery crumb topping 🍰✨ Perfect for breakfast, coffee, or dessert.

🍰 Classic Crumb Cake

⏱️ Time

  • Prep: 15 minutes
  • Bake: 35–40 minutes
  • Total: ~55 minutes

🛒 Ingredients

For the cake

  • 1½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • ½ cup sour cream or plain yogurt
  • ¼ cup milk

For the crumb topping

  • ½ cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • ½ tsp cinnamon
  • ¼ cup cold butter, cubed

🔥 Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×9-inch baking pan.
  2. Make the crumb topping: In a bowl, mix flour, brown sugar, granulated sugar, and cinnamon. Cut in cold butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Set aside.
  3. Make the cake:
    • In a bowl, cream butter with sugars until light and fluffy.
    • Beat in eggs one at a time, then vanilla.
    • Mix in sour cream and milk.
    • In another bowl, whisk flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add dry ingredients to wet, mixing until just combined.
  4. Assemble: Pour cake batter into prepared pan. Evenly sprinkle crumb topping over the cake.
  5. Bake 35–40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  6. Let cool slightly before serving. Optional: dust with powdered sugar.

🌟 Tips & Variations

  • Extra crunch: Add chopped nuts (walnuts or pecans) to crumb topping.
  • Flavor twist: Add lemon zest, vanilla, or almond extract to the batter.
  • Moist cake: Use full-fat sour cream or yogurt.
  • Mini version: Bake in muffin tins for crumb cake muffins.

This cake is soft, tender, and perfectly sweet with a crunchy topping—coffee’s best friend 😋

I can also give a super moist one-bowl crumb cake version that’s even easier to make. Do you want that?
