Here’s a classic Cream Pie recipe — a smooth, velvety custard in a flaky pie crust. This is a versatile base for vanilla, chocolate, or banana cream pie.


🥧 Classic Cream Pie

Ingredients (Serves 6–8)

For the Crust:

  • 1 9-inch pre-baked pie crust (store-bought or homemade)

For the Custard Filling:

  • 2 ½ cups whole milk
  • ¾ cup sugar
  • 3 tbsp cornstarch
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • 3 large egg yolks
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 1 ½ tsp vanilla extract

For the Topping:

  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 2 tbsp powdered sugar
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract
  • Optional garnish: chocolate shavings, cocoa powder, or fresh fruit

Instructions

1️⃣ Make the Custard

  1. In a medium saucepan, whisk together sugar, cornstarch, and salt.
  2. Gradually whisk in milk and egg yolks until smooth.
  3. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until mixture thickens and comes to a gentle boil (about 5–7 minutes).
  4. Remove from heat and stir in butter and vanilla.

2️⃣ Fill the Pie

  • Pour custard into the pre-baked pie crust.
  • Smooth the top with a spatula.
  • Cover with plastic wrap directly on the custard surface to prevent a skin from forming.
  • Chill in the refrigerator at least 4 hours until set.

3️⃣ Make the Whipped Cream Topping

  • Whip heavy cream with powdered sugar and vanilla until soft peaks form.
  • Spread or pipe over chilled custard.
  • Garnish with chocolate shavings, cocoa, or fruit if desired.

💡 Tips

  • For chocolate cream pie, whisk ½ cup cocoa powder into the custard mixture.
  • For banana cream pie, layer sliced bananas on the crust before pouring custard.
  • Make ahead: pie can be assembled a day in advance.
  • Use a metal whisk and constant stirring to prevent lumps in custard.
