🍝 Spaghetti with Meat Sauce

Ingredients (Serves 4–6)

  • 12 oz (340 g) spaghetti pasta
  • 1 lb (450 g) ground beef (or a mix of beef and pork)
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 (24 oz / 680 g) jar tomato sauce or crushed tomatoes
  • 1 tsp dried Italian seasoning
  • ½ tsp dried oregano
  • ½ tsp red pepper flakes (optional)
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese (optional)
  • Fresh basil or parsley, chopped (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

1️⃣ Cook the Spaghetti

  • Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil.
  • Cook spaghetti according to package instructions until al dente.
  • Drain and set aside.

2️⃣ Make the Meat Sauce

  1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet or saucepan over medium heat.
  2. Sauté onion until soft, 3–4 minutes.
  3. Add garlic and cook 30 seconds until fragrant.
  4. Add ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it up with a spoon.
  5. Drain excess fat if necessary.
  6. Stir in tomato sauce, Italian seasoning, oregano, red pepper flakes, salt, and pepper.
  7. Simmer 15–20 minutes, stirring occasionally. Adjust seasoning to taste.

3️⃣ Combine & Serve

  • Serve sauce over cooked spaghetti.
  • Sprinkle with Parmesan cheese and garnish with fresh herbs if desired.

💡 Tips

  • For extra richness, add a splash of red wine or a teaspoon of sugar to balance acidity.
  • For a chunkier sauce, add diced bell peppers, mushrooms, or carrots.
  • Leftovers store in the fridge for 2–3 days; reheat gently on the stove or in the microwave.
  • Pair with garlic bread and a side salad for a full meal.
