Chicken and dumplings

Ahh, chicken and dumplings—pure comfort food 🥣💛
Here’s a cozy, classic version that tastes like home.


🍗 Chicken and Dumplings

Ingredients

For the chicken

  • 1 lb chicken (thighs or breasts)
  • 6 cups chicken broth
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 2 carrots, sliced
  • 2 celery stalks, sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • Salt & black pepper
  • 1 tsp poultry seasoning or thyme

For the dumplings

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¾ cup milk
  • 2 tbsp melted butter

How to Make

  1. Cook the chicken
    In a large pot, add chicken, broth, onion, carrots, celery, garlic, and seasonings.
    Simmer 20–25 minutes until chicken is tender.
  2. Shred the chicken
    Remove chicken, shred it, and return it to the pot.
  3. Make dumpling dough
    Mix flour, baking powder, and salt.
    Stir in milk and melted butter—don’t overmix.
  4. Drop the dumplings
    Drop spoonfuls of dough into the simmering soup.
  5. Cook dumplings
    Cover and simmer 15 minutes (no peeking!).
    Dumplings should be fluffy and cooked through.
  6. Finish & serve
    Taste and adjust seasoning. Serve hot and happy 😌

🥄 Tips & Variations

  • Creamy version: stir in ½–1 cup milk or cream
  • Shortcut: use rotisserie chicken
  • Southern-style: flatter, denser dumplings (I can show you how)
  • Extra cozy: add a splash of butter at the end
