🫕 Cheese Fondue (Classic & Creamy)

A warm, melty cheese dip perfect for dipping bread, vegetables, and meats — cozy and fun for gatherings.

🛒 Ingredients (Serves 4)

  • 8 oz (225 g) Gruyère cheese, shredded
  • 8 oz (225 g) Emmental or Swiss cheese, shredded
  • 1 clove garlic, halved
  • 1 cup dry white wine
  • 1 tsp lemon juice
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 2 tbsp kirsch (cherry brandy, optional)
  • Freshly ground black pepper
  • Nutmeg (optional)
  • Dippers: cubed bread, broccoli, cauliflower, cherry tomatoes, apple slices, cooked sausage, or shrimp

🔥 Instructions

1️⃣ Prep the pot

  • Rub the inside of a fondue pot with garlic halves for flavor. Discard garlic or leave for subtle taste.

2️⃣ Heat wine

  • In a saucepan or fondue pot, bring white wine and lemon juice to a gentle simmer over medium heat.

3️⃣ Add cheese

  • Gradually add shredded cheese in small handfuls, stirring constantly in a zig-zag pattern (not circular) to prevent clumping.

4️⃣ Thicken

  • Mix cornstarch with kirsch (if using) or a little water, then stir into melted cheese.
  • Continue stirring until smooth and creamy.

5️⃣ Season

  • Add black pepper and a pinch of nutmeg to taste. Keep warm over low heat for serving.

6️⃣ Serve & dip

  • Arrange dippers on a platter.
  • Use fondue forks or skewers to dip bread, veggies, or meats into the hot cheese.

🌿 Tips & Variations

  • Substitute wine with apple cider or beer for different flavors.
  • Mix in blue cheese for a sharper, tangy version.
  • For a lighter fondue, use half cheese and half cream.
  • Keep the heat low while serving to avoid burning the cheese.

If you want, I can also give you:

  • Spicy jalapeño cheddar fondue
  • Chocolate dessert fondue
  • Beer and cheddar fondue with mustard kick
