Bread rolls are small, individual-sized pieces of bread with a soft interior and a slightly crisp or soft crust. They’re versatile, perfect as a side for meals, sandwiches, or snacks.
Ingredients
- 3 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 packet (2 ¼ tsp) active dry yeast
- 1 cup warm milk (about 110°F/43°C)
- 2 tbsp sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- 3 tbsp butter, melted
- 1 egg (optional, for egg wash)
Instructions
- Activate yeast
In a small bowl, combine warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let sit 5–10 minutes until frothy. - Make the dough
In a large bowl, mix flour and salt. Add yeast mixture and melted butter. Knead 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic. - First rise
Cover the dough and let it rise in a warm place for 1–1.5 hours, until doubled in size. - Shape rolls
Punch down dough and divide into 10–12 equal pieces. Shape into balls and place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. - Second rise
Cover and let rise 30–40 minutes until puffy. - Bake
Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Brush rolls with beaten egg if desired. Bake 15–20 minutes until golden brown.
