Bread roll

Posted on January 21, 2026 by Admin

A bread roll is a small, individual portion of bread, often soft and slightly crusty on the outside, commonly served as a side with meals, sandwiches, or soups. They’re versatile—perfect for breakfast, dinner, or making mini sandwiches.

Basic Ingredients:

  • All-purpose or bread flour
  • Water or milk
  • Yeast (active dry or instant)
  • Sugar (a little, to feed the yeast)
  • Salt
  • Butter or oil
  • Optional: eggs (for richer rolls)

Simple Bread Roll Recipe

Ingredients (makes ~8 rolls):

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup warm milk
  • 2 tsp active dry yeast
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp butter, melted

Instructions:

  1. Activate yeast: Mix warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let sit 5–10 min until frothy.
  2. Make dough: Combine flour and salt, then add yeast mixture and melted butter. Mix until a soft dough forms.
  3. Knead: Knead 8–10 min until smooth and elastic.
  4. First rise: Place in a greased bowl, cover, let rise 1–1.5 hours until doubled.
  5. Shape rolls: Punch dough down, divide into 8 portions, shape into balls, place on baking sheet.
  6. Second rise: Cover and let rise 30–45 min.
  7. Bake: Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Brush rolls with milk or egg wash for shine. Bake 15–20 min until golden brown.
  8. Cool: Let cool slightly before serving.

💡 Tip: For soft rolls, brush with butter immediately after baking. For a crustier roll, bake without brushing.

If you want, I can also give a quick 30-minute “no-rise” bread roll version—perfect if you’re in a hurry. Do you want me to do that?
