Biscuits and gravy

Posted on March 7, 2026 by Admin

Here’s a classic Biscuits and Gravy recipe—a Southern breakfast favorite with fluffy biscuits smothered in creamy sausage gravy. 🥐🥓

Ingredients

For the Biscuits

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 6 tbsp cold butter, cubed
  • ¾ cup buttermilk

For the Sausage Gravy

  • 1 lb breakfast sausage (pork or turkey)
  • ¼ cup all-purpose flour
  • 2–3 cups milk (adjust for desired thickness)
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • Optional: pinch of crushed red pepper or paprika

Instructions

1. Make the biscuits

  1. Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. In a bowl, whisk flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Cut in cold butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Stir in buttermilk until dough just comes together.
  5. Turn onto a floured surface and gently knead 3–4 times.
  6. Pat to 1-inch thickness and cut with a biscuit cutter.
  7. Place on a baking sheet and bake 12–15 minutes until golden.

2. Make the gravy

  1. In a skillet over medium heat, cook sausage until browned.
  2. Sprinkle flour over the sausage and stir for 1–2 minutes to remove the raw flour taste.
  3. Gradually whisk in milk, cooking until thickened and creamy.
  4. Season with salt, pepper, and optional spices.

3. Serve

  • Split biscuits in half and pour gravy over the top.
  • Serve immediately, optionally with fried eggs or hash browns.

💡 Tips

  • For extra creamy gravy, use whole milk or half-and-half.
  • Add fresh herbs like thyme or parsley for flavor variation.
  • Leftover gravy can be stored in the fridge and reheated gently.

If you want, I can also give you a shortcut skillet version where you make biscuits and gravy all in one pan, perfect for a quick breakfast.

Do you want me to do that?
