Banana bread with cream cheese icing

Posted on January 29, 2026 by Admin

Here’s a classic, moist Banana Bread with Cream Cheese Icing—perfectly sweet, rich, and a little tangy from the icing:

Ingredients

For the Banana Bread:

  • 1 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp cinnamon (optional)
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • ¾ cup brown sugar or granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 3 ripe bananas, mashed
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • ¼ cup milk or buttermilk

For the Cream Cheese Icing:

  • 4 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter, softened
  • ½–1 cup powdered sugar (to taste)
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract
  • 1–2 tsp milk (if needed for consistency)

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven:
    • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
    • Grease and flour a 9×5-inch loaf pan (or line with parchment).
  2. Mix Dry Ingredients:
    • In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon.
  3. Mix Wet Ingredients:
    • In a separate bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
    • Beat in eggs, mashed bananas, vanilla, and milk until smooth.
  4. Combine Wet and Dry:
    • Gently fold the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined.
    • Don’t overmix—it keeps the bread tender.
  5. Bake:
    • Pour batter into prepared loaf pan.
    • Bake 55–65 minutes, until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
    • Let cool in the pan 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack.
  6. Make the Cream Cheese Icing:
    • Beat cream cheese and butter until smooth.
    • Add powdered sugar and vanilla, beating until creamy.
    • If too thick, add milk 1 tsp at a time until desired consistency.
  7. Ice the Bread:
    • Once banana bread is completely cooled, spread or drizzle cream cheese icing on top.

💡 Tips:

  • Use very ripe bananas—they’re sweeter and more flavorful.
  • For extra texture, add ½ cup chopped walnuts or chocolate chips.
  • The icing can also be piped for a fancier presentation.

If you want, I can give a one-bowl, super-moist version that’s ready faster and still has that cream cheese topping.

Do you want me to provide that version?
