Perfect Baked Potato

Ingredients (per potato):

  • 1 large russet potato (russets = fluffiest)
  • 1 tsp olive oil
  • Salt (kosher or sea salt works best)
  • Optional toppings: butter, sour cream, shredded cheese, chives, bacon bits

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven: 425°F (220°C).
  2. Prep the potato: Scrub the potato clean. Pat dry. Prick all over with a fork (about 6–8 times) so steam can escape.
  3. Oil & salt: Rub the potato with olive oil and sprinkle generously with salt.
  4. Bake: Place directly on the oven rack (for crispier skin) or on a baking sheet. Bake 45–60 minutes depending on size. Test by piercing with a fork—it should slide in easily.
  5. Serve: Cut a cross on top, fluff the insides with a fork, and add butter, sour cream, cheese, or whatever toppings you love.
