Baked potato

Here’s a simple and classic way to make a perfectly baked potato with a fluffy interior and crispy skin:


Ingredients (Serves 1–4)

  • 4 large russet potatoes
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • Salt, to taste
  • Optional toppings: butter, sour cream, shredded cheese, chives, bacon bits

Instructions

1. Preheat oven:

  • Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C).

2. Prep the potatoes:

  • Scrub potatoes clean and pat dry.
  • Pierce each potato several times with a fork.
  • Rub olive oil over the skin and sprinkle with salt.

3. Bake:

  • Place potatoes directly on the oven rack (or on a baking sheet).
  • Bake 45–60 minutes, until the skin is crispy and a fork slides easily into the center.

4. Serve:

  • Cut a slit down the middle, fluff the inside with a fork, and add your favorite toppings.

Tips

  • For extra-crispy skin, increase oven temperature to 450°F (230°C) for the last 10 minutes.
  • Microwave shortcut: Cook potatoes in the microwave for 5–10 minutes to start, then finish in the oven for crispy skin.
  • Russet potatoes are ideal because they have a starchy, fluffy interior perfect for baking.
