Here’s a classic, homemade Apple Pie recipe — tender, flaky crust with sweet, spiced apples.


🍎 Classic Apple Pie

Ingredients (Serves 8)

For the Crust (makes 2 crusts):

  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 cup (2 sticks / 225g) unsalted butter, cold, cut into cubes
  • 6–8 tbsp ice water

For the Filling:

  • 6–7 medium apples (Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or a mix), peeled, cored, and sliced
  • ¾ cup sugar
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Optional:

  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • 1 tbsp sugar for sprinkling

Instructions

1️⃣ Make the Crust

  1. In a large bowl, mix flour, salt, and sugar.
  2. Cut in cold butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Gradually add ice water, 1 tbsp at a time, until dough comes together.
  4. Divide dough in half, shape into disks, wrap in plastic, and chill at least 1 hour.

2️⃣ Prepare the Filling

  1. In a large bowl, toss sliced apples with sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, lemon juice, and vanilla.
  2. Let sit while rolling out the crust.

3️⃣ Assemble the Pie

  1. Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. Roll out one disk of dough and fit into a 9-inch pie pan.
  3. Add apple filling, mounding slightly in the center.
  4. Roll out second dough disk and place over apples.
  5. Trim edges, crimp to seal, and cut a few slits for steam.
  6. Brush top with egg wash and sprinkle with sugar if desired.

4️⃣ Bake

  1. Bake 20 minutes at 425°F (220°C).
  2. Reduce heat to 375°F (190°C) and bake 35–45 minutes until crust is golden and filling is bubbly.
  3. Let cool 2–3 hours before slicing to allow filling to set.

💡 Tips

  • For a richer crust, substitute 2–3 tbsp of butter with shortening.
  • Mix apple varieties for balanced sweetness and texture.
  • Add ¼ cup raisins or chopped nuts for variation.
  • Leftover pie keeps well at room temperature 1–2 days or refrigerated for up to 4 days.
