🍏 Apple Pie

Apple pie is a classic dessert featuring tender, spiced apple filling encased in a buttery, flaky pastry crust. It’s an iconic comfort food, especially popular in American cuisine.


📝 Classic Apple Pie Recipe (Serves 8)

Ingredients

For the Crust

  • 2½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 cup (225 g) unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 6–8 tbsp ice water

For the Filling

  • 6–7 cups peeled and sliced apples (Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or a mix)
  • ¾ cup sugar
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Optional

  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • 1 tbsp coarse sugar for sprinkling

👩‍🍳 Instructions

1️⃣ Make the Crust

  1. In a bowl, mix flour, sugar, and salt.
  2. Cut in cold butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Gradually add ice water, 1 tbsp at a time, until dough comes together.
  4. Divide dough in half, shape into disks, wrap in plastic, and chill 1 hour.

2️⃣ Prepare Filling

  1. Toss apple slices with sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, lemon juice, and vanilla.

3️⃣ Assemble Pie

  1. Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. Roll out one disk of dough and fit into a 9-inch pie pan.
  3. Add apple filling.
  4. Roll out second disk and cover, or make a lattice top.
  5. Trim excess dough, crimp edges.
  6. Brush with egg wash and sprinkle sugar if desired.

4️⃣ Bake

  1. Bake 20 minutes at 425°F (220°C), then reduce to 375°F (190°C) and bake 35–45 minutes more.
  2. Cover edges with foil if crust browns too quickly.

5️⃣ Cool & Serve

  • Let cool at least 1–2 hours before slicing to set filling.

🔥 Tips

  • Use a mix of tart and sweet apples for depth of flavor.
  • Toss apples with a little cornstarch for extra thick filling.
  • Chill dough well to prevent shrinking.
  • Add a pinch of salt to the sugar topping for contrast.

🍽️ Serving Ideas

  • With vanilla ice cream (classic à la mode)
  • With whipped cream or caramel drizzle
  • Paired with sharp cheddar cheese slices (traditional in some regions)
  • Serve warm or at room temperature
