Amish hamburger steak bake

Posted on March 6, 2026 by Admin

Here’s a clear and tasty way to make an Amish Hamburger Steak Bake, a hearty, comforting casserole that’s simple but full of flavor. This dish is similar to a classic Amish-style meat-and-potatoes bake.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 2 cups frozen hash brown potatoes (or diced cooked potatoes)
  • 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup (or homemade cream sauce)
  • ½ cup milk
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Optional: ½ tsp paprika or garlic powder for extra flavor
  • Optional garnish: chopped parsley

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Cook the beef:
In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until browned. Drain excess fat. Add onions and garlic, cooking until soft. Season with salt, pepper, and optional spices.
  3. Mix the sauce:
In a bowl, combine the cream of mushroom soup, milk, and Worcestershire sauce. Stir until smooth.
  4. Assemble the bake:
    • In a greased 9×13-inch baking dish, spread the hash browns evenly.
    • Layer the cooked beef mixture over the potatoes.
    • Pour the soup mixture over the top and spread evenly.
    • Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese on top.
  5. Bake:
Cover with foil and bake for 30 minutes. Remove foil and bake for an additional 10–15 minutes until cheese is melted and bubbly.
  6. Serve:
Let cool for a few minutes. Garnish with parsley if desired. Serve hot, ideally with a side of green beans or a simple salad.

This dish is flexible: you can swap mushrooms for cream of chicken soup, add bell peppers, or even top with fried onions for extra crunch.

If you want, I can also give you a slow-cooker Amish hamburger steak bake version that makes it even easier for busy days. Do you want me to do that?
