“American Goulash”

Posted on April 3, 2026 by Admin

Here’s a classic American Goulash recipe—a hearty, comforting one-pot meal that’s different from Hungarian goulash. Think tender beef, tomato sauce, and tender pasta:

🍲 American Goulash

🔹 Ingredients (serves 4–6)

  • 1 lb (450 g) ground beef or ground turkey
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 green bell pepper, chopped (optional)
  • 1 can (15 oz) diced tomatoes
  • 1 can (8 oz) tomato sauce
  • 2 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • Salt & pepper to taste
  • 2 cups elbow macaroni (uncooked)
  • 2 cups beef or chicken broth
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (optional topping)

🔹 Instructions

1. Brown the meat

  • In a large skillet or pot, cook ground beef over medium heat until browned
  • Drain excess fat

2. Sauté vegetables

  • Add onion, garlic, and bell pepper
  • Cook until softened (~5 minutes)

3. Add sauce & seasonings

  • Stir in diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, paprika, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper
  • Simmer 5–10 minutes

4. Cook the pasta in the sauce

  • Add uncooked macaroni and broth
  • Cover and simmer until pasta is tender (~12–15 minutes), stirring occasionally
  • If mixture gets too thick, add a little more broth

5. Optional cheesy topping

  • Sprinkle shredded cheddar on top before serving

🔹 Tips

  • For extra flavor, add a dash of Worcestershire sauce
  • Leftovers taste even better the next day
  • You can swap macaroni for penne or rotini

If you want, I can also give you a quick 20-minute stovetop version or a slow-cooker version that’s super hands-off.

Do you want me to do that?
