Here’s a classic, moist, and slightly sweet cornbread recipe — perfect as a side for chili, BBQ, or fried chicken.

🌽 Classic Cornbread

Ingredients (Serves 6–8)

  • 1 cup cornmeal
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup sugar (optional, adjust to taste)
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/4 cup melted butter (plus extra for greasing)

Instructions

1️⃣ Preheat

  • Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
  • Grease an 8-inch square baking pan or a 9-inch cast iron skillet with butter.

2️⃣ Mix Dry Ingredients

  • In a bowl, whisk together cornmeal, flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.

3️⃣ Mix Wet Ingredients

  • In another bowl, whisk milk, eggs, and melted butter.

4️⃣ Combine

  • Pour wet ingredients into dry and stir until just combined (do not overmix).

5️⃣ Bake

  • Pour batter into prepared pan.
  • Bake 20–25 minutes, until golden and a toothpick comes out clean.

6️⃣ Serve

  • Let cool 5–10 minutes.
  • Serve warm with butter, honey, or jam.

Tips & Variations

  • Jalapeño Cornbread: Fold in 1–2 diced jalapeños for a spicy kick.
  • Cheesy Cornbread: Add 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese.
  • Honey Cornbread: Substitute 2–3 tbsp sugar with honey for a subtle sweetness.
  • Skillet Cornbread: Bake in a preheated cast-iron skillet for crispy edges.

I can also give you a buttermilk cornbread version that’s extra tender and rich if you want a classic southern-style cornbread.

Do you want me to give that version too?
