Rice pudding

Here’s a creamy, comforting rice pudding recipe — simple, classic, and easy to customize.

🍚 Classic Creamy Rice Pudding

Ingredients (Serves 4–6)

  • 3/4 cup uncooked white rice (short or medium grain works best)
  • 2 cups water
  • 2 cups whole milk (plus extra if needed)
  • 1/3–1/2 cup sugar (to taste)
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon (optional)
  • 1/2 cup raisins (optional)
  • 1 tbsp butter (optional, for richness)

Instructions

1️⃣ Cook the rice

In a saucepan, bring water to a boil. Add rice, reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer 15 minutes until water is absorbed.

2️⃣ Add milk & sugar

Stir in milk, sugar, and salt. Cook over medium-low heat, stirring frequently, for 20–25 minutes until thick and creamy.

3️⃣ Finish

Stir in vanilla, cinnamon, butter, and raisins (if using).
If it thickens too much, add a splash of warm milk.

4️⃣ Serve

Serve warm, or chill for 1–2 hours for a thicker texture. Sprinkle with extra cinnamon before serving.

Flavor Variations

  • Add lemon zest for brightness
  • Stir in sweetened condensed milk for extra richness
  • Use coconut milk for a tropical twist
  • Top with toasted nuts or fresh berries

If you’d like, I can give you a baked rice pudding version, an old-fashioned stovetop custard-style version with eggs, or a Mexican-style version.
