American goulash

Here’s a classic, comforting American Goulash — hearty, cheesy, and perfect for a weeknight meal 🍝🥩


American Goulash

Serves: 4–6
Time: ~40 minutes


Ingredients

  • 1 lb (450 g) ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (14.5 oz / 410 g) diced tomatoes
  • 1 can (8 oz / 225 g) tomato sauce
  • 2 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 2 cups elbow macaroni, uncooked
  • 1½ cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • Optional: chopped green bell pepper or mushrooms

Instructions

1️⃣ Cook the Beef

  • In a large skillet or pot, cook ground beef over medium heat until browned.
  • Drain excess fat.
  • Add onion, garlic, and optional vegetables; sauté 3–4 minutes until softened.

2️⃣ Add Tomatoes & Seasoning

  • Stir in diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, paprika, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper.
  • Bring to a simmer.

3️⃣ Cook the Pasta

  • Add uncooked elbow macaroni to the sauce.
  • Cover and simmer 15–20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until pasta is tender and liquid is absorbed.

4️⃣ Add Cheese

  • Stir in shredded cheddar cheese until melted and creamy.

5️⃣ Serve

  • Serve hot, optionally garnished with extra cheese or chopped parsley.

Tips & Variations

  • For a saucier version, add ½ cup beef broth or water while simmering pasta.
  • Swap cheddar for mozzarella or a blend of cheeses for different flavors.
  • Make it a one-pot meal by cooking the pasta directly in the sauce from the start.
