Deviled ham salad

Posted on February 22, 2026 by Admin

Oh yes — Deviled Ham Salad is old-school Southern comfort in a bowl. 🐖✨ It’s creamy, a little tangy, slightly spicy, and perfect for sandwiches, crackers, or tea parties.

Here’s a classic homemade version (way better than the canned stuff).

Deviled Ham Salad

Serves 4–6

Ingredients

  • 2 cups cooked ham, finely chopped (or pulsed in food processor)
  • ½ cup mayonnaise
  • 1 tbsp Dijon mustard
  • 1 tsp yellow mustard
  • 1–2 tsp sweet pickle relish (or finely chopped pickles)
  • 1 tbsp finely minced onion
  • 1 tsp apple cider vinegar (or lemon juice)
  • ¼ tsp paprika
  • Pinch of cayenne pepper (optional, for heat)
  • Salt & black pepper to taste

Instructions

1️⃣ Chop the ham
Finely dice by hand or pulse in a food processor until spreadable but not paste-like.

2️⃣ Mix the dressing
In a bowl, combine mayo, mustards, relish, onion, vinegar, paprika, cayenne, salt, and pepper.

3️⃣ Combine
Fold the ham into the dressing until evenly coated.

4️⃣ Chill
Refrigerate at least 1 hour to let flavors blend.

How to Serve

  • On soft white bread for classic ham salad sandwiches
  • On crackers as an appetizer
  • In lettuce cups for a lighter option
  • Stuffed into celery sticks
  • On toasted brioche for a fancy twist

Flavor Upgrades

  • Add chopped boiled egg for richness
  • Stir in a little cream cheese for extra creaminess
  • Mix in chopped pecans for crunch (Southern style)
  • Add hot sauce for more “deviled” heat

If you’d like, I can give you a vintage 1950s-style church picnic version or a smoky bacon-loaded version next.
