Here’s a classic, hearty Sloppy Joe recipe β€” sweet, tangy, and perfect for sandwiches πŸ”

πŸ” Classic Sloppy Joe

Ingredients (Serves 4–6)

  • 1 lb ground beef (or turkey for a lighter version)
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 small green bell pepper, finely chopped (optional)
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste (optional, for richer flavor)
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tsp mustard (yellow or Dijon)
  • Β½ tsp chili powder or smoked paprika (optional)
  • Salt & black pepper to taste
  • 4–6 hamburger buns

Instructions

  1. Cook the meat
In a large skillet over medium heat, cook ground beef until browned, breaking it up with a spoon. Drain excess fat if necessary.
  2. Add aromatics
Add onion, bell pepper (if using), and garlic. Cook 3–4 minutes until softened.
  3. Make the sauce
Stir in ketchup, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, mustard, chili powder, salt, and pepper.
  4. Simmer
Reduce heat to low and simmer 10–15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until thickened and flavorful.
  5. Serve
Spoon the mixture onto hamburger buns and serve warm. Add pickles, cheese, or coleslaw on top if desired.

Tips & Variations

  • For a spicier version, add Β½ tsp cayenne pepper or hot sauce.
  • Swap ground beef for ground turkey, chicken, or plant-based meat.
  • Make ahead: Sloppy Joe filling can be prepared up to 2 days in advance and reheated.
  • For extra richness, stir in ΒΌ cup shredded cheddar just before serving.

If you want, I can also give you a slow cooker version that makes it super easy for meal prep.
