Here’s a classic, flavorful Pepper Steak recipe — tender strips of beef with bell peppers in a savory sauce.

🥩 Pepper Steak

Ingredients (Serves 4)

  • 1 lb (450g) flank steak or sirloin, thinly sliced against the grain
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 2–3 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 large green bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 large red bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 medium onion, sliced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • ½ cup beef broth
  • 2 tbsp oyster sauce (optional but flavorful)
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • ½ tsp black pepper (adjust to taste)
  • 1 tsp sesame oil (optional, for finishing)
  • 2 tsp cornstarch mixed with 2 tbsp water (for thickening)

Instructions

1️⃣ Marinate the Beef

  1. In a bowl, mix sliced beef with 2 tbsp soy sauce and 1 tbsp cornstarch.
  2. Let marinate 10–15 minutes while prepping vegetables.

2️⃣ Stir-Fry the Beef

  1. Heat 1–2 tbsp vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over high heat.
  2. Add beef and sear quickly until browned but not fully cooked (about 2–3 minutes).
  3. Remove beef and set aside.

3️⃣ Cook the Vegetables

  1. In the same skillet, add remaining oil if needed.
  2. Sauté onions and bell peppers for 3–4 minutes until crisp-tender.
  3. Add garlic and cook 30 seconds until fragrant.

4️⃣ Make the Sauce

  1. In a small bowl, mix beef broth, oyster sauce, soy sauce, sugar, and black pepper.
  2. Pour over the vegetables and bring to a simmer.

5️⃣ Combine Beef and Sauce

  • Return beef to the skillet.
  • Stir and cook 2–3 minutes until beef is cooked through.
  • Stir in cornstarch-water mixture to thicken the sauce.
  • Drizzle with sesame oil if desired.

6️⃣ Serve

  • Serve hot over steamed rice or noodles.
  • Garnish with sliced green onions or sesame seeds if desired.

💡 Tips

  • Slice beef very thin against the grain for maximum tenderness.
  • Bell peppers can be red, yellow, or orange for a colorful dish.
  • Don’t overcook beef — high heat stir-frying keeps it tender.
  • For extra flavor, add a splash of rice wine or hoisin sauce.

If you want, I can also give you a slow cooker pepper steak version or a stovetop version with a creamy peppercorn sauce.
