French fries

Here’s a classic French Fries recipe — crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside, and perfect as a snack or side.

🍟 Classic French Fries

Ingredients (Serves 4)

  • 4 large russet potatoes
  • 4 cups vegetable oil (for frying)
  • 1–2 tsp salt (to taste)
  • Optional: black pepper, garlic powder, paprika, or herbs for seasoning

Instructions

1️⃣ Prep the Potatoes

  • Peel (optional) and cut potatoes into sticks, about ¼–½ inch thick.
  • Place cut fries in a bowl of cold water and soak at least 30 minutes to remove excess starch.
  • Drain and pat dry thoroughly with paper towels.

2️⃣ First Fry (Blanch)

  • Heat oil in a deep fryer or heavy skillet to 325°F (165°C).
  • Fry potatoes in batches 3–4 minutes until soft but not browned.
  • Remove and drain on paper towels.

3️⃣ Second Fry (Crisp)

  • Increase oil temperature to 375°F (190°C).
  • Fry potatoes in batches 2–3 minutes until golden brown and crispy.
  • Drain on paper towels.

4️⃣ Season & Serve

  • Immediately sprinkle with salt and any other desired seasonings.
  • Serve hot with ketchup, aioli, or your favorite dipping sauce.

💡 Tips

  • Soaking fries in cold water removes excess starch and helps them crisp.
  • Fry in small batches to avoid overcrowding and soggy fries.
  • For a healthier option, bake at 425°F (220°C) for 25–30 minutes, tossing halfway, with a light coating of oil.
  • Sweet potato fries can be substituted; reduce fry time slightly as they cook faster.
