Ahh, comfort food royalty. 😌
Here’s a classic, cozy Salisbury steak—juicy patties, rich onion-mushroom gravy, total diner vibes.
Classic Salisbury Steak
Ingredients
Steaks
- 1 lb ground beef (80/20 is ideal)
- 1/3 cup breadcrumbs (or crushed crackers)
- 1 egg
- 1 tbsp ketchup
- 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp onion powder
- Salt & black pepper
- 1 tbsp oil or butter (for frying)
Gravy
- 1 tbsp butter
- 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
- 8 oz mushrooms, sliced (optional but elite)
- 2 tbsp flour
- 2 cups beef broth
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- Salt & pepper to taste
How to Make It
- Mix the patties
In a bowl, gently mix all steak ingredients. Don’t overwork it—keeps them tender. - Shape & sear
Form into oval patties. Heat oil in a skillet over medium-high and sear 3–4 min per side until browned. Remove and set aside. - Build the gravy
In the same skillet, melt butter. Add onions (and mushrooms) and cook until soft and lightly browned. - Thicken
Sprinkle in flour, stir for 1 minute. Slowly whisk in beef broth and Worcestershire. - Simmer
Return patties to the pan, reduce heat, cover, and simmer 10–15 minutes until cooked through and gravy is thick.
Serve With
- Mashed potatoes (non-negotiable IMO)
- Egg noodles
- Green beans or peas
- A slice of buttered bread for gravy mopping 👀
If you want:
- Old-school TV dinner style
- Healthier / low-carb
- Extra oniony, extra gravy
- Slow cooker version
Just say the word.
