Salisbury steak

Posted on February 9, 2026 by Admin

Ahh, comfort food royalty. 😌
Here’s a classic, cozy Salisbury steak—juicy patties, rich onion-mushroom gravy, total diner vibes.

Classic Salisbury Steak

Ingredients

Steaks

  • 1 lb ground beef (80/20 is ideal)
  • 1/3 cup breadcrumbs (or crushed crackers)
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tbsp ketchup
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • Salt & black pepper
  • 1 tbsp oil or butter (for frying)

Gravy

  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
  • 8 oz mushrooms, sliced (optional but elite)
  • 2 tbsp flour
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt & pepper to taste

How to Make It

  1. Mix the patties
In a bowl, gently mix all steak ingredients. Don’t overwork it—keeps them tender.
  2. Shape & sear
Form into oval patties. Heat oil in a skillet over medium-high and sear 3–4 min per side until browned. Remove and set aside.
  3. Build the gravy
In the same skillet, melt butter. Add onions (and mushrooms) and cook until soft and lightly browned.
  4. Thicken
Sprinkle in flour, stir for 1 minute. Slowly whisk in beef broth and Worcestershire.
  5. Simmer
Return patties to the pan, reduce heat, cover, and simmer 10–15 minutes until cooked through and gravy is thick.

Serve With

  • Mashed potatoes (non-negotiable IMO)
  • Egg noodles
  • Green beans or peas
  • A slice of buttered bread for gravy mopping 👀

If you want:

  • Old-school TV dinner style
  • Healthier / low-carb
  • Extra oniony, extra gravy
  • Slow cooker version

Just say the word.
