Taco meat

Posted on February 7, 2026 by Admin

Got it—taco meat, the foundation of taco night 🌮🔥. Let’s make it simple, flavorful, and perfectly seasoned.

Classic Ground Beef Taco Meat

Ingredients (serves 4)

  • 1 lb ground beef (or turkey/chicken)
  • 1 tbsp olive oil (optional if meat is lean)
  • 1 small onion, finely diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 packet taco seasoning or homemade mix:
    • 1 tsp chili powder
    • 1 tsp cumin
    • ½ tsp paprika
    • ½ tsp oregano
    • ½ tsp salt
    • ¼ tsp black pepper
    • Optional: pinch cayenne for heat
  • ⅓ cup water

Instructions

  1. Cook the meat:
Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add onion, sauté 2–3 minutes. Add garlic, cook 30 seconds. Add ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it up with a spatula.
  2. Season:
Drain excess fat if needed. Sprinkle taco seasoning over meat. Stir in water and simmer 3–5 minutes until liquid reduces slightly and meat is fully coated.
  3. Taste & adjust:
Add more salt, pepper, or chili powder if needed.

Tips

  • Juicy taco meat: don’t overcook once seasoning is added; the water helps it stay moist.
  • Extra flavor: add a splash of lime juice at the end.
  • Make ahead: refrigerate for up to 3 days; freeze for 2–3 months.

Optional mix-ins: black beans, corn, diced peppers, or sautéed mushrooms for more texture.

If you want, I can also give a Mexican-style ground beef taco meat that’s slightly smoky and restaurant-level flavorful. Do you want that version?
