🍮 Classic Vanilla Custard (Stovetop)

Ingredients

  • 2 cups whole milk (or half milk, half cream for extra richness)
  • 4 egg yolks
  • ½ cup sugar
  • 2 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 1½ tsp vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt

How to Make

  1. Heat milk in a saucepan until steaming (don’t boil).
  2. Whisk egg yolks, sugar, cornstarch, and salt in a bowl.
  3. Slowly whisk hot milk into eggs.
  4. Return to pan and cook on low, stirring constantly, until thick.
  5. Remove from heat, stir in butter and vanilla.
  6. Chill or serve warm.
