🥩 Crockpot Salisbury Steak with Mushrooms
Ingredients (serves 4–6)
For the Patties
- 1½ lbs ground beef
- ½ cup breadcrumbs
- 1 large egg
- ¼ cup milk
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- Salt & pepper to taste
For the Mushroom Gravy
- 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup
- 1 cup beef broth
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 8 oz mushrooms, sliced
- 2 tsp cornstarch (optional, for thicker gravy)
Instructions
- Prepare the patties
- In a bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, milk, chopped onion, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
- Form into 6–8 oval patties.
- Sear the patties (optional but recommended)
- Heat a skillet over medium-high heat. Sear patties 1–2 minutes per side until lightly browned. This locks in flavor but isn’t required.
- Mix the gravy
- In a bowl, whisk together cream of mushroom soup, beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, onion powder. Stir in sliced mushrooms.
- Assemble in crockpot
- Place patties in the crockpot. Pour mushroom gravy over the top, making sure patties are mostly covered.
- Cook
- Cover and cook on low 6–7 hours or high 3–4 hours, until patties are tender and gravy is flavorful.
- Optional: If gravy is too thin, mix 2 tsp cornstarch with 2 tbsp water and stir in during the last 15 minutes.
- Serve
- Serve over mashed potatoes, egg noodles, or rice. Garnish with chopped parsley if desired.
🔥 Pro Tips
- Searing: Adds depth of flavor, but you can skip for a true “dump-and-go” crockpot meal.
- Gravy thickness: Use cornstarch slurry at the end if needed.
- Flavor boost: Add a splash of red wine or balsamic vinegar to the gravy.
- Make ahead: Patties can be formed and frozen; just add a few extra cooking minutes.
Optional variations:
- Cheesy twist: Sprinkle shredded cheddar on top before serving.
- Vegetable-loaded: Add carrots, celery, or green beans to the crockpot.
- Herb-forward: Thyme or rosemary pairs wonderfully with mushroom gravy.
This version is classic comfort—rich, hearty, and perfect for a hands-off weeknight dinner.
